Poland has a substantial and diverse voluntary sector. The country hosts thousands of registered non-governmental organisations alongside informal community groups operating at the neighbourhood level.
The legal framework for volunteering in Poland is defined by the Act on Public Benefit Activity and Volunteering (Ustawa o działalności pożytku publicznego i o wolontariacie), which has been in effect since 2003. The law establishes the rights and obligations of volunteers and the organisations that work with them.
National volunteer centres coordinate activity through a network of regional offices. Information on opportunities is available through portals such as wolontariat.org.pl and ngo.pl.
